About The Book
Letters
This book by José Angel Gutiérrez is a compendium of concise historically-grounded essays that critique the historical oppression of Mexican-origin people in “Occupied Mexico.” It is a must-have resource for everyone’s tool chest who want to construct a resistance movement to defend and protect themselves and their communities in the face of the intensified attack unfolding under the Trump Administration.
Mario Compean, cofounder, Mexican American Youth Organization (MAYO)
In these Letters, Gutiérrez gives advice to the dormant Chicanos who have been lulled to sleep through the corruption of US electoral politics and its two-party dominance both who have led to this generational moment of neglected genocide, ethnic cleansing, continued state oppression, racism, threatened mass deportations, and the orange clown felon President Trump. Some of the Letters read as a short history lesson of US aggression against Chicanos; they analyze how Trump won the 2024 election and confusing nature of current “Hispanic Votes.” These are the highlights. There is more imbedded to prick your thought neurons and anger as you may disagree the ideas he details. All Chicano activists and intellectuals should read the Letters. These are ideas and advice for future generations from one of the last surviving major mentors of the Chicano Movement that should not be dismissed.
