The GEO Group Takes Our Taxpayer Dollars by the Billions
Based in Boca Raton, Florida, the GEO Group is publicly traded C Corporation. They not only do business of operating immigration detention centers and other related detention centers in 4 countries and is the largest operator in the US with 80, 000 beds in 99 facilities. Revenue in 2024 was $2.424 billion with net income of $31.966 million.
Unlike, say Urban Strategies, Inc. another detention center operator but of unaccompanied minor only, the GEO Group is sued regularly. Over litigation dating back to 2012, they lost 3 contracts in Mississippi for bribery, kickback schemes, and corruption totaling over a billion dollars. In 2016, the federal government under a different president contracts with such private groups were intended to be phased out. However, Donald “Taco” the new president rescinded those plans and our tax payer dollars continue to flow to GEO Group and others.
